ARRL Field Day for Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club

June 23  noon thru June 24 noon………..

The Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club will host it’s annual ARRL Field Day starting Saturday at 12 noon till 12 noon on Sunday that highlights the use of amateur radio for emergencies throughout the world in this contest.

Please come and enjoy the world of amateur radio and spend some time communicating with other through out the world. Make sure to bring your kids too! There’s nothing like talking to other non hams on the “Get on the Air” station to become interested in amateur radio.

Members of this club are the same people that help agencies communicate when their is no other available means of communications during disasters….Please come out and support amateur radio – besides, it is free entertainment for the entire family with free food too!

We do have several amateur radio operators who are members of our LEPC.

June LEPC Meeting

The June LEPC meeting will be held on June 19, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Regional Health Dept. office in Union City.
The meeting date and time was changed at the last meeting due that Stan & Lori were going to be out of town.

As a reminder, this meeting will include the election of officer for the next three years as per our new bylaws.

Green Plains LLC Training (Ethanol Plant)

Thursday March 29, Friday March 30 ERS will provide continual training for the GPO rescue team and other rescue groups in the county. March 31 and April 1 we will have a repeat training of the first two days for fire departments, grains and rescue teams. Below is the schedule agenda. Please provide me a list of those who will be attending on which day as soon as you possibly can.

16 Hour Confined Space Rescue Training
Tentative Course Outline
March 29, 30, 31 & April 1, 2012

Note: This is the second 16 hours of a 32 hour Confined Space Rescue Course.
The first 16 hours was conducted on March 17 & 18, 19 & 20, 2011.

Day 1
Classroom
I. Knot tying review.
II. Mechanical advantage systems review.
Field exercises. Conducted in ERS’s confined space rescue simulator.
III. Given the adequate rescue equipment, trainees were to rotate through the following evolutions on supplied air breathing apparatus.
a. Rigging and operating the 4:1 block and tackle.
b. Rigging and operating tandem prusik safety lines.
c. Setting up a tripod.
d. Donning a full body rescue harness with supplied air breathing apparatus, being lowered into the space and working their way through a maze in the confined space. At completion being raised back up out of said space by the rigging team.
IV. Confined space team exercise. Given a victim in a vertical confined space with a hazardous atmosphere, the team was to establish command, rig for vertical rescue and lower two rescuers into the space for victim extrication.
a. Exercise repeated until all trainees were allowed to perform the rescue.
b. Exercise equipment clean up.

Day 2
I. Knot tying review.
II. Field exercises. ERS simulator.
a. Confined space team exercise. Given a victim in a horizontal entry confined space with a hazardous atmosphere, the team was to establish command, rig for horizontal entry, rig a 3:1 z-drag to assist in victim removal, and have entrants enter the space for patient packaging and extraction.
b. Exercise repeated until all trainees are allowed to enter the space to accomplish rescue.
III. Field exercise. Grain silo tunnel.
a. Given all needed rescue equipment, trainees were to respond to a call of a victim in the tunnel, rig safety lines and a 3:1 Z Rig from the existing davit arm, and rescue the victim from the tunnel.
b. Exercise repeated until all trainees are allowed to enter the space to accomplish rescue.
Classroom.
IV. 25 question written test.
V. Course evaluation completed.
VI. Course adjourn.

January Meeting

We will have our monthly meeting tomorrow at the West Tennessee Regional Health Office in Union City at 10:00am.

Mr. Pat Hogan, our boardmember that is the representative of the Red Cross and long time member of the Obion County Rescue Squad, fell out of a pecan tree and landed on his head breaking his neck at the C-2. Mr. Pat will be in a halo brace for the next 3 to 4 months. He is in the hospital in Jackson.
